HAIFA CLUSTER-MUNITION IMPACTS: Rescue forces responded to multiple impact reports in the Haifa area following Iran’s latest ballistic missile attack. The IDF assesses the missile carried a cluster bomb warhead, scattering submunitions across a wide area.
Damage was reported at several sites. Magen David Adom says four people were lightly hurt, including a couple in their 40s and two young girls who suffered smoke inhalation.
CENTRAL ISRAEL CLUSTER-MUNITION IMPACTS: Rescue teams also responded to impact reports in central Israel following the same Iranian attack. The missile is likewise assessed to have carried a cluster bomb warhead.
Magen David Adom says a 34-year-old woman was seriously wounded after being hit by fragments and was taken to hospital. In Tel Aviv, a man in his 30s was lightly hurt by glass shards.
❗️ IDF PROBE INTO YESTERDAY’S HAIFA STRIKE: An Israeli Air Force probe found that the Iranian ballistic missile that struck Haifa yesterday was not intercepted after it broke apart in mid-air. According to the investigation, the breakup changed the projectile’s trajectory and the interceptors missed.
Part of the missile, apparently the warhead, hit a residential building and caused a partial collapse. The investigation found that the warhead did not explode.
️ FOUR DEAD RECOVERED FROM HAIFA RUBBLE: All four victims who had been unaccounted for after yesterday’s Haifa strike have now been recovered from under the rubble. Magen David Adom identified them as a man and woman in their 80s, a man in his 40s, and a 35-year-old woman.
Two bodies were located overnight. The other two were found this morning, and all four were extracted from the scene shortly afterward.
❗️ Complex Recovery Operation in Haifa: A senior Home Front Command search and rescue officer described the 18-hour effort to recover four bodies from the site of an Iranian ballistic missile impact in Haifa as one of the most complex operations of the war. The victims were located in an inner room of an apartment at the bottom of the building, near the stairwell, and not inside a bomb safe room.
The officer said forces operated under the assumption that the victims could still be alive, and therefore worked slowly and methodically until all four were extracted. He said the operation required specialized capabilities and extensive effort over many hours.
The rescue was further complicated by concern that the missile’s warhead had not exploded on impact. “The assumption was that there was either a warhead or some unexploded ordnance inside the structure,” the officer says, adding that “necessary precautions” were taken.
To reach the victims as quickly as possible, Home Front Command forces dug several tunnels through the debris. “There is a very complex procedure here,” the officer adds.
