A source told Israeli Channel 12: “The Israeli and U.S. air forces have completed an assessment aimed at improving capabilities in the event that fighting resumes. Steps are currently being taken to ensure the execution of an extremely large-scale attack if necessary”.
The Israeli military establishment and the White House discussed today the possibility of launching an attack on Iran, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority.
⚠️ President Trump Signals Limited Diplomatic Window: President Trump said the United States will “probably have to strike Iran with another major blow” and said he had been about an hour away from authorizing an attack before being asked to delay.
Trump said Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE requested additional time for negotiations, adding: “We postponed our attack on Iran by 2–3 days because Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE think they are getting very close to making a deal”.
Trump added: “Two or three days. Maybe Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Maybe early next week. A limited period of time”.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Gulf officials said they were unaware of any imminent U.S. plans to attack Iran despite Trump’s statements.

️ Concerns Over Iranian Air Defense Adaptation: According to The New York Times, President Trump partly delayed additional strikes after Pentagon officials warned Iran was adapting to the U.S. air campaign.
Officials reportedly assessed that Iranian commanders had studied U.S. fighter and bomber flight patterns, possibly with Russian assistance, making American operations more predictable and improving Iranian air defense effectiveness.
The report cited the downing of a McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagle and damage to a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II as indications that risks to U.S. aircraft were increasing.
Israel Preparing For Potential Regional Escalation: Iran is reportedly preparing for a short but intense conflict scenario involving dozens or even hundreds of missiles launched daily.
Additional concerns discussed include possible attacks on Gulf energy infrastructure, refineries, and ports, along with potential Houthi disruption of the Bab al-Mandab Strait that could heavily impact regional shipping and energy routes, according to The New York Times.
Despite the tensions, the IDF said following a situational assessment that Home Front Command defensive guidelines remain unchanged and remain in effect until Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 21:00.
⚖️ Netanyahu Security Schedule Adjustments: Prime Minister Netanyahu’s court testimony concluded several hours earlier than planned today due to what was described as a “security-diplomatic” schedule.
Amid the ongoing tensions, Netanyahu also requested not to testify tomorrow for the same reason.

Ali Khezrian, a member of Iran’s parliament, said the Strait of Hormuz could be used as leverage in negotiations regarding Iran’s frozen funds and suggested passage for ships could become conditional on future agreements.
Khezrian also said Iran’s regional influence had pushed some traditional U.S. allies to oppose the use of American military bases against Iran.
