U.S. POLITICAL BACKLASH OVER IRAN AGREEMENT: Republican and Democratic senators are publicly questioning President Trump’s Iran agreement, with lawmakers from both parties criticizing the deal and raising concerns about its potential impact.
One senator called the agreement: “What an embarrassment.”
Another warned: “Giving billions of dollars to theocratic lunatics who want to murder us is not a good idea.”
A further criticism stated: “I think the president unfortunately is receiving bad advice on this deal.”
Reports indicate significant divisions inside the administration. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly expressed serious doubts regarding Iranian nuclear compliance, while Vice President JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner strongly pushed the agreement forward.
Vance, representing the non-interventionist wing of the MAGA movement, has framed the accord as “peace through strength” and as a way to avoid deeper U.S. involvement in the Middle East. In a New York Times podcast discussion that included criticism of Israel, Vance stated: “To tell you the truth, I didn’t forgive Bush for Iraq.”
David Makovsky of the Washington Institute noted Rubio’s limited public role in promoting the agreement, warning: “Right now, Trump needs Rubio to be more on the front lines [to calm hawkish skeptics]… His silence will be deafening.”
The framework also comes amid pressure from isolationist voices within the Republican coalition. Former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent resigned and issued a sharply critical letter accusing Israel and its “powerful American lobby” of dragging the U.S. into war through Iraq-style misinformation tactics.
Some Israeli analysts view the dispute as a broader warning sign. They argue that under Vance’s rising influence and possible 2028 ambitions, the separatist and anti-Israel wing of the political Right may be gaining ground in ways that could reduce the weight given to Israeli security concerns in future U.S. policy.

LEBANON TALKS EXPOSE POLICY DIFFERENCES INSIDE WASHINGTON: According to Israel Hayom, internal fissures have also emerged within the Trump administration over Middle East sequencing, including whether a Lebanon settlement should be subordinated to the broader U.S.-Iran memorandum or handled through a standalone disarmament roadmap.
One approach, associated with former Ankara Ambassador and Special Representative Tom Barak, favors placing Lebanon within the wider U.S.-Iran strategic accord. Under that approach, Israel would accept an immediate IDF withdrawal from southern Lebanon in exchange for standard Lebanese Armed Forces deployment to manage demilitarization.
A competing approach, led by Secretary Rubio’s State Department, calls for an independent Lebanese-Israeli agreement. That framework would condition any localized IDF withdrawal on an explicit, coordinated dismantling of Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and armed capabilities.
Ahead of the June 23 bilateral negotiations scheduled for Monday in Washington, Lebanese President Michel Aoun convened his diplomatic advisory team to finalize Beirut’s updated territorial positions.
Former senior Mossad official Oded Eilam warned that a direct, rapid settlement with Lebanon remains a core Israeli security priority. Reports indicate Prime Minister Netanyahu faces mounting domestic pressure to personally intervene and safeguard a long-term northern border buffer zone.
️ ISRAEL REAFFIRMS CEASEFIRE POSITION: Israel’s Ambassador to the United States stated:
“Israel remains committed to the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel, Lebanon and the US. If Hezbollah does not violate the agreement, it will be kept.”
He added:
“Under all circumstances, Israel retains its right to respond to attacks against it and to thwart threats to its territory, citizens and soldiers.”
