CEASEFIRE TAKES EFFECT: U.S. officials confirmed that a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah formally took effect at 4:00 PM local time after being brokered by the United States and Qatar following talks involving Israel and Iran.
The initial hours appeared to hold, with no immediate reports of violations. Enforcement terms and compliance verification mechanisms were not immediately detailed.
The ceasefire is linked to the broader U.S.-Iran agreement signed earlier this week, though Israeli officials have publicly vowed to maintain Israel’s military presence in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is fully disarmed.
️ IDF: FULL FREEDOM OF ACTION CONTINUES: IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said Israeli forces retain “full freedom of action” against threats in southern Lebanon.
He said troops continue operating in the Beaufort Castle area and Ali Taher Ridge to destroy major Hezbollah tunnel systems described as the terrorist organization’s “central command centers.”
“Hezbollah is fighting a defensive battle to prevent our forces from completing the destruction of these infrastructures,” Defrin said.
“Hezbollah is the one that violated the ceasefire. It is trying to defend its capabilities it built over the years.”
Defrin said troops “have full operational freedom of action, to remove threats in any area.”
“There is no limit [concerning] removing threats,” he added.
The IDF carried out more than 150 strikes in Lebanon since midnight.

SECURITY ZONE TO REMAIN: The IDF stated that the security zone in southern Lebanon extends up to 10 kilometers and that forces will continue reinforcing positions there.
“The Chief of Staff’s instructions have not changed, and there are no restrictions on eliminating threats. The raids will continue as long as necessary. The forces on the ground enjoy full operational freedom. The IDF is prepared and ready to return to intensive combat operations in any arena. Anything related to ceasefire agreements is the responsibility of the political leadership.”
ISRAELI OFFICIALS: NO CHANGE IN POLICY: An Israeli official told Channel 13, “We are currently in a ceasefire, and if Hezbollah does not attack us, it’s not the time for war on our part. Our forces will remain in southern Lebanon and we have freedom of action against threats.”
A senior Israeli official told Channel 12, “There is no novelty in the ceasefire. It allows the IDF to continue destroying infrastructures and acting against emerging threats.”
A U.S. official told Axios, “Netanyahu agreed 100% to renew the ceasefire in Lebanon.”
Netanyahu’s Office had not confirmed that claim at the time of reporting.

Tehran asserted U.S. responsibility for the current hostilities and said the campaign violates “clause 1 of the ceasefire memorandum” dated June 18, 2026, which it says requires a multi-front cessation of conflict.
Iran said it reserves the right to take “all necessary measures” to secure its national interests and those of its regional allies.
