WASHINGTON TALKS REMAIN DEADLOCKED: US-mediated Israel-Lebanon talks remain stalled over specific contractual wording, delaying a scheduled signing ceremony and media event at the State Department.
i24 diplomatic correspondent Guy Azriel reported: “Reporters have been asked to move to a waiting area — Could be a long evening ahead.”
The US State Department announced that talks will continue for an additional day into the morning, extending the fifth round of negotiations.
According to Al-Jadeed’s correspondent in Washington, the process faces an explicit diplomatic divide, with Lebanon seeking an “intent declaration” while Israel demands an “agreement.”
The United States is reportedly exerting intense pressure on both delegations to force an agreement, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s intervention driving the sides toward a preliminary “Declaration of Intent” expected for signature today.
According to An-Nahar, the negotiations remain complicated by historical disputes and “emergency” complications stemming from Iranian involvement in monitoring the ceasefire.
The report said Israel is avoiding a withdrawal timetable and rejected more than ten proposals for pilot areas submitted by Lebanese and US mediators.
Tactical deadlocks also remain over a drafted security annex.
Israel is reportedly demanding Lebanese military operations expand both south and north of the Litani River, while linking any IDF withdrawal to complete Hezbollah disarmament under American supervision, despite agreement on several undisclosed points.
According to Al-Jumhuriya, the three-day fifth round “failed to achieve a breakthrough” regarding Israeli withdrawal or freedom of movement.
The Lebanese military delegation rejected entering villages while Israeli troops remain present.
It also insisted that experimental areas remain exclusively under the Yellow Line and refused including Ali al-Taher hill in those zones.

⚠️ HEZBOLLAH REJECTS EXPANDED SECURITY MEASURES: According to Al-Diyar, Lebanese military negotiators rejected what they described as a potential Israeli “trap” designed to trigger an armed clash.
The report said Hezbollah informed mediators it will completely block any security measures outside the Litani River.
Hezbollah also rejected Israeli operational demands regarding the Ali al-Taher mountains near Nabatieh, insisting any agreement beyond Resolution 1701 has “no place in the party’s lexicon.”
