Hamas commander involved in holding seven hostages eliminated: The IDF says it eliminated Mahmoud Abd al-Fattah Awad, a commander in Hamas’ military wing, in an airstrike in the Gaza City area over the weekend.
According to the military, Awad took part during the war in holding seven Israeli civilian hostages in an underground tunnel in the Gaza City area: Daniella Gilboa, Karina Ariev, Doron Steinbrecher, Naama Levy, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran and Eitan Mor.
The IDF says Awad recently planned and advanced attacks against troops and Israeli civilians and worked to restore Hamas’ capabilities, “in systematic violation of the ceasefire,” and that the strike was carried out to remove the threat he posed.
Hamas finance chief eliminated in Khan Younis: The IDF and Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) say they eliminated Muhammad Abu Alwan, head of Hamas’ Finance Department, in an airstrike yesterday in the Khan Younis area of southern Gaza.
According to their statement, Abu Alwan began his activities a decade ago and was involved in budgeting all of Hamas’ branches. The detailed joint statement says he directed the transfer of more than NIS 1 billion during the war to fund Hamas’ terrorist activities. A separate report of the announcement gives the amount as over $1 billion, a discrepancy between the accounts.
The IDF and Shin Bet described his role as “making him a key figure in maintaining the terrorist organization’s rule and survival.” The military says he recently worked to restore Hamas’ infrastructure and capabilities in systematic violation of the ceasefire and was eliminated to remove the threat he posed.
The IDF and Shin Bet say they continue working to degrade Hamas’ finances and prevent the restoration of its infrastructure and military capabilities, including by eliminating terrorists and targeting networks of money changers and facilitators involved in transferring hundreds of millions of dollars.
️ Military exercise at Zikim Beach: A military exercise took place earlier today during the morning hours in the Zikim Beach area, within the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council, the IDF Spokesperson said. It involved increased movement of security forces, vehicles and vessels, with gunfire and explosions heard in the area.
The exercise was planned in advance as part of the 2026 training program. The IDF said there was no concern of a security incident.
⚠️ Sukkot hiking restrictions in northern firing zones: The IDF says hikers will not be permitted to enter military training areas during Sukkot in the Golan Heights, Carmel, Ramot Menashe and Netofa areas, in accordance with the situational assessment. It asks the public to stay out of restricted areas and allow security forces to carry out their missions.
The notice also states that hikers may enter subject to prior coordination and that all entry into military areas requires advance coordination and approval. The IDF warns that training takes place continuously in firing zones and that unauthorized entry endangers hikers.
Anyone encountering unexploded ordnance, ammunition or a suspicious object should move away and immediately report it to Northern Command. For reports, hiking coordination and inquiries in northern Israel: 073-348-3007.
