⚓ INS Drakon arrives as Israel’s sixth submarineL INS Drakon reached Haifa Naval Base after a 23-day, 3,792-nautical-mile voyage from Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems’ shipyard in Kiel, Germany. Its arrival followed around 12 years of planning, construction and testing. In his induction remarks, Zamir referred to 14 years of development and innovation tailored to the IDF and Navy’s needs.
Zamir called the induction one of the IDF’s most significant force-buildup efforts, strengthening the Navy’s capabilities to become “more covert, longer-range, deeper, and stronger.” He said it fulfills a vital element of naval development and transforms the Navy into an additional long-range strategic arm of the IDF.
Highlighting the strategic defense relationship with Germany, Zamir linked INS Drakon to the Arrow project for Germany, which he signed in Berlin as Defense Ministry director general. Israeli-developed technology now protects German skies, he said, while the submarine reflects shared expertise, trust and cooperation. He thanked Germany’s defense establishment, shipyard personnel and TKMS CEO Oliver Burkhard for their support during the war.
Ahead of Sukkot, Zamir linked Ben-Gurion’s description of “our young navy” during the War of Independence to Israel’s modern naval capabilities and responsibility for its own defense. He credited the engineers and specialists behind the submarine and entrusted it to Shayetet 7 and its crew as an essential part of the IDF’s integrated capabilities in the air, on land, in space, at sea and beneath it.
⚠️ Katz and Zamir address Iran at submarine induction: Zamir said the military continues monitoring Iran and its proxies, warning that “the Iranian regime has been battered and weakened, yet it has failed to change its intentions.” He accused Tehran of holding its own people hostage, illegally blocking international shipping routes, and striking energy and national infrastructure across the Middle East.
He said the IDF remains vigilant and prepared to operate in every arena as required, thwart threats and pursue decisive victory.
Defense Minister Israel Katz called the submarine’s arrival “an important message to all those who seek to threaten us, foremost among them the murderous Ayatollah regime in Tehran.” He said Israel would continue building capabilities to thwart threats, adding: “Distance does not grant immunity, not in the air, not on land, and not at sea.”
