❗️ Two reservists killed in Gaza drone safety incident: Master Sergeant (Res.) Nadav Kali, 24, from Har Halutz, and Master Sergeant (Res.) Ofek Moalem, 23, from Jerusalem, were killed Thursday afternoon in a serious safety incident in northern Gaza. Both served in the 16th “Jerusalem” Brigade’s 7007th Battalion. The IDF cleared their names for publication, and their families have been notified.
According to the preliminary military investigation, the soldiers were operating first-person view (FPV) explosive drones known as “Atalef,” Hebrew for “bat,” from an army post inside the military’s buffer zone in northern Gaza. A first drone completed its mission, but a second crashed inside the post during takeoff for an as-yet-unknown reason. Several minutes later, the soldiers approached and picked up the crashed drone, which exploded and fatally wounded them. They were taken to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, where their deaths were declared.
The military temporarily grounded all small drones capable of carrying explosive payloads, including suicide drones and drones that drop explosives, while investigating the crash and explosion. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered an expert team headed by a Ground Forces brigadier general to investigate. The team will “examine the circumstances of the incident in order to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future,” the IDF said.
Hamas finance commander and sniper eliminated: The IDF said it eliminated two Hamas military-wing terrorists in separate Gaza strikes Thursday to remove threats they posed.
In Deir al-Balah, the military eliminated Jabr Moqbel, identified as a Hamas commander who headed the “Moqbel” money exchange network, which transferred millions of shekels in foreign currency to Hamas. “These funds are used by Hamas to finance terrorists, restore military infrastructure, and advance attacks against IDF troops,” the IDF said. It said it continues targeting Hamas’ financing capabilities to prevent the rebuilding of its military infrastructure and capabilities.
A separate strike in Khan Yunis eliminated Hasan al-Batta, identified by the IDF as a Hamas sniper operative. According to the military, both terrorists had recently worked to advance attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians and restore Hamas’ capabilities “in systematic violation of the ceasefire.”
❌ Israeli civilians detained at Gaza border: Troops detained several Israeli civilians who attempted to cross into Gaza earlier today, the IDF said. Their motive was not immediately clear.
According to the military, the civilians crossed a security barrier into a buffer zone inside Israeli territory. Troops dispatched to the scene detained them and brought them back through the fence. The Gaza border fence stands several dozen meters inside Israeli territory, and the IDF said the civilians never entered the Strip.
“The IDF is focused on its defensive mission in the Gaza Strip and emphasizes that the area adjacent to the barrier is designated as a closed military zone, and entry into it is strictly prohibited. Arriving at this area endangers the safety of civilians and IDF troops operating in the area,” the military said.
