️ Abu Zaida’s account contradicts Eldar’s report, Segal says: Amit Segal cited an interview with Sufyan Abu Zaida, also known as “Coal Eyes,” conducted by Danny Hecht on Channel 12’s weekend news. Abu Zaida, the central figure in Shlomi Eldar’s investigative report, said: “I never thought that what Sinwar told me was a warning of war, or anything resembling October 7. I thought it might be something related to the West Bank.”
Segal said Abu Zaida did not deny speaking with Eldar. He expressed disbelief in Abu Zaida’s account and said it completely contradicted Eldar’s report. According to Segal, Abu Zaida claimed he had no understanding whatsoever that Sinwar’s message was a threat of war, contrary to what Eldar attributed to him. Abu Zaida also claimed Dahlan and bin Zayed had not understood it as a threat of war.
Abu Zaida said that, if the message was a threat, he thought it concerned a cell in Judea and Samaria, not Gaza. Segal said this also contradicted Eldar’s reporting and criticized Eldar for omitting the threat’s stated deadline: “until the end of September”.
Abu Zaida added: “No one, including the people in the Emirates to whom I relayed the message, thought it was a threat of war.”
