️ Security dispute and responsibility: Channel 12’s Amit Segal reported that, in recent weeks, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) Director David Zini and Israeli airlines had disputed the agency’s ban on flights to the UAE. The agency considered security measures at Emirati airports insufficient and blocked the flights because it is responsible for securing Israeli flights to and from Israel. Segal said the dispute had received little attention in news coverage.
Segal argued that the security measures applied to flights to Israel might have helped prevent this attack, particularly if the attacker brought the weapon aboard himself.
In his analysis, Segal outlined the division of responsibilities: the Shin Bet secures Israeli flights, the Ministry of Transportation is responsible for foreign airlines departing Israel, and the Mossad works to thwart international terrorist threats abroad. He argued that an incident involving a foreign airline and a foreign pilot does not fall neatly within any one of those mandates.
⚠️ Warnings, possible target and Iran claims: Investigators are examining whether the attacker intended to seize control over Jordanian airspace and crash the aircraft inside Israel shortly afterward. This remains one line of inquiry, far from a conclusive finding.
Reports of a general increase in terrorism warnings, but said the dominant concern regarding the UAE involved an attack at an airport or a missile strike, recalling the 2002 attack targeting Israelis in Mombasa. He said he was unaware of any prior discussion of a pilot himself becoming the attacker and argued that this possibility needs investigation.
Netanyahu told CNN there had been no specific warnings about the previous day’s incident. He told Fox News: “The pilot who carried out the stabbing underwent a process of Islamic radicalization. They may try something like this again. We have indications that the Iranians may try to strike Israeli targets, especially during the election period.”
Trump said that, from what he had heard, Iran was connected to the attempted attack on the aircraft.
✈️ Six-day suspension and replacement flights: Flydubai flights were suspended for six days. Israeli airlines will operate repatriation flights in their place with enhanced security.
Netanyahu said he spoke with the UAE president and that they agreed to resolve the security issue. Minister Regev’s decision was approved during a conversation between Netanyahu and the UAE ruler, who instructed that landing slots be allocated to Israeli airlines.
Following the attack, El Al is resuming flights to the UAE with two daily services.
Netanyahu on cooperation with the UAE: Prime Minister Netanyahu told CBS: “A million Israelis have visited the UAE since the Abraham Accords”.
He described close cooperation between Israel and the United Arab Emirates to ensure the safety and security of all their citizens.
