⚖️ Bar-Ilan lecturer indicted over alleged mass-killing plot: The State Attorney’s Office indicted a Bar-Ilan mathematics lecturer, a Petah Tikva resident in his 60s, in the Central District Court in Lod over an alleged nationalist-ideological terrorist plot targeting hundreds of Arabs. A court order bars publication of his name. Charges include preparation to commit an act of terrorism under the Counter-Terrorism Law, extortion by threats and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors seek his detention until proceedings conclude.
According to the indictment, his intentions developed against the backdrop of the “Guardian of the Walls” riots and intensified during the “Swords of Iron” war. From early February 2023 until his arrest about two weeks ago, he allegedly prepared “AYAT,” a Hebrew acronym for “The People Will Carry Out Transfer,” to kill hundreds of Arab Israeli citizens, including Bedouins, and Arabs in East Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria, and drive these populations into permanent flight to Jordan, Lebanon and Gaza.
The plan envisioned 72 Jewish participants, including him, in 12 cells of six, at least half with firearms licenses. Using handguns, rifles, axes and hammers, they would stage simultaneous surprise attacks in mixed Jewish-Arab cities and Arab communities across Israel. It also envisioned recruiting subversive IDF elements to coordinate Air Force, Artillery Corps and Armored Corps bombardments of Arab population centers. Real-time social media amplification would spread fear and trigger mass flight.
“How to Carry Out AYAT Here and Now” instructed participants to carry out mass killing and seize roads, access points to Arab communities, mixed cities and hospitals. It urged attackers “to show no mercy even to their cruel and repulsive women and children, not to stop in the face of pleas,” claiming that stopping would lead to chaos and a massacre of Jews.
Prosecutors say he drafted operational and justification documents and assessed access routes and attack methods through reconnaissance around Tuba-Zangariyye, his designated principal target. His approximately 18 months of recruitment efforts failed: the plan required 71 others, but no one agreed to join.
He allegedly sought help from Zehut leader Moshe Feiglin, described in the prosecution’s statement as heading Zehut’s list and holding the second slot on a joint Zehut–Religious Zionism list for the upcoming 26th Knesset election. He intended to recruit selected activists through Feiglin, invite them to a Zehut election event, then tell them they would attack the next day and issue detailed instructions. He attended two Feiglin public events and tried to arrange a meeting and deliver a plan summary. Feiglin did not respond.
About a month ago, ahead of the election, he allegedly wrote Feiglin an extortion letter criticizing and insulting him for not cooperating. He threatened publication unless Feiglin advanced the plan, believing it would damage Feiglin’s reputation before the election. About two days later, he gave the letter to a passing neighbor at Feiglin’s home, who delivered it. At a subsequent Zehut event in Jerusalem’s Mahane Yehuda Market, another woman passed several copies to the party’s director-general with a similarly threatening letter.
Zehut and Moshe Feiglin responded: “Immediately upon receiving the extortion and threatening letters from the defendant, Moshe Feiglin and the party leadership promptly contacted the Israel Police and filed a formal complaint regarding the matter. We thank law enforcement authorities for their swift and determined action, and we trust the security and judicial authorities to prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law. The Zehut Party will continue to act with public responsibility and without fear.”
