✈️ Shin Bet joins flydubai investigation: Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) interrogators have flown to the United Arab Emirates to participate in questioning Hamam al-Hammami, the Omani co-pilot involved in an attempted terror attack on a flydubai flight last week. Their participation has been cleared for publication by the censor.
Mossad said: “We have found that the Omani co-pilot traveled to several countries hostile to Israel in recent years, some of which are considered ‘enemy states’. The visits were brief. We are investigating whether, during these visits, anyone or any organization recruited or used him”.
CBS News, citing two Israeli sources, reported that Israel was prepared to shoot down the aircraft carrying more than 150 Israelis if it had been confirmed hijacked and continued toward Israel. Under standard protocol, Israeli Air Force fighter jets would first inspect the cockpit and cabin and attempt to establish contact. If the aircraft were determined to be hijacked, remained unresponsive and continued approaching Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu could authorize it to be shot down to prevent an attack on a major target.
According to i24 News, the co-pilot had a backup plan if he could not crash the aircraft in Israel: targeting Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, which is used by the U.S. military.
️ Segal criticizes Transport Ministry’s database failures: Amit Segal reported that a National Passenger Analysis Center was established, with each relevant ministry expected to authorize employees to access its data and run queries. Examples included Health Ministry checks on passengers arriving from countries experiencing epidemics and Transport Ministry checks on pilots from hostile countries. The database was also used to help locate Israeli women who went missing in Vienna.
According to Segal, the Transport Ministry never authorized any employees, never submitted a single query and did not pay its share of the database’s costs. He questioned how any decision to bar pilots from hostile countries could be implemented without using the system to identify them, describing the failure to perform these basic checks as a serious scandal.
⚔️ Reported Israeli preparations for further fighting: Israel Hayom reports that Israel is preparing options for another strike on Iran, including acting without direct U.S. involvement, while maintaining close military and intelligence coordination with Washington. The IDF is also preparing for renewed fighting with Hezbollah and assesses that another major round of combat with Hamas in Gaza is eventually inevitable.
Emirati outlet Erem News reports that the U.S. has given Israel the ‘green light’ to operate over Iraqi airspace without restrictions, allowing the Israeli Air Force to strike Iranian-backed Iraqi militias.
️ Two incidents at IDF posts in southern Syria: According to the military, two unarmed suspects approached an Israeli military position in the IDF’s buffer zone in southern Syria on a motorcycle this afternoon. Soldiers initiated a suspect arrest procedure that included live fire toward the motorcycle. Both suspects were detained and taken to Israel for questioning. One was hit by gunfire and taken to an Israeli hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident last night, an unarmed suspect tried to breach another nearby army post, according to the IDF. A Carmeli Brigade reservist spotted him and opened fire. When the suspect continued trying to enter the post, the soldier shot him dead. No soldiers were injured in either incident.
Israel suspects someone is trying to test the alertness of IDF forces in southern Syria.
