⚠️ Netanyahu warns Hamas against influencing elections: Prime Minister Netanyahu said at the start of the cabinet meeting: “Hamas will try to challenge us with its remaining forces ahead of the elections in an attempt to influence them. We will thwart such attempts and respond with tremendous force if they make that mistake.”
🛡️ Gaza readiness raised ahead of October 7 anniversary: Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the IDF to heighten its alert level and prepare for any possible scenario in Gaza ahead of tomorrow’s third anniversary of the Hamas-led October 7 onslaught. He cited intelligence indicating that Hamas intends to attempt attacks against Israeli forces in Gaza that day.
Katz instructed the military to prepare for worst-case scenarios and act forcefully on any intelligence or warning to thwart threats before they materialize, alongside the forceful activity already underway. He warned that if Israeli forces were harmed, Hamas and Gaza’s population would pay a heavy price beyond all proportion. His office also warned that any harm to Israeli forces would draw a response beyond all proportion.
⚠️ Katz outlines contingency for war with the Palestinian Authority: At the weekly cabinet meeting, Katz told ministers that the IDF’s reference scenario for Judea and Samaria requires preparations for possible attacks by jihadist elements against Israeli settlers and IDF soldiers, drawing lessons from October 7.
He said: “The IDF is preparing for a scenario in which the Palestinian Authority security forces and the Fatah-affiliated Tanzim organizations turn their guns against Israeli settlers and IDF forces in Judea and Samaria and in communities along the seam line. In such a case, war will be declared against the Palestinian Authority, and the IDF will launch a comprehensive offensive in accordance with an organized plan that was formulated and approved by Prime Minister Netanyahu and by me, based on the principles laid out for the IDF. The campaign will be short and intense and will include the use of ground and air forces and special means; the targeted killing and expulsion of senior officials; the destruction of weapons and military equipment; the large-scale evacuation of residents; and the destruction of terrorist infrastructure inside the cities and throughout all the refugee camps in Judea and Samaria—in accordance with the Gaza and Lebanon model. All of this will take place alongside reinforcing forces and protecting Israeli communities. There will not be an intifada lasting for years as there was in the past, but rather a short and intense war with a clear-cut victory and a change in the reality on the ground.”
Katz last month threatened full-scale war against the Palestinian Authority if it prepared an attack similar to the Hamas-led October 7 onslaught. While elements of the current government have long criticized the PA, Israel’s defense establishment views PA President Mahmoud Abbas and his security forces as an important ally in combating terrorism in Judea and Samaria.
These remarks come amid an increase in similar statements by Katz in recent weeks, ahead of Israel’s October 27 election.
