⚠️ Media warn Israelis abroad of attack risk: Israeli media warned Israelis abroad of an increased risk of attacks tomorrow, October 7.
✈️ U.S. bombers withdrawn from Britain over suspected Iran-linked threat: The U.S. withdrew all 12 B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford in southern England following security concerns over a suspected Iran-linked plot, The Wall Street Journal reported. The base had served as a hub for U.S. bomber strikes against Iran. The aircraft returned to their home stations in the U.S. and remain available for global missions.
According to the Journal, U.S. officials believe a branch of the IRGC recruited UK nationals to target the bombers and kill personnel. Some British officials questioned the plot’s sophistication. Axios reported that intelligence indicated a possible Iranian drone attack on the base.
British authorities had also arrested several dual British-Iranian nationals suspected of planning an attack, although U.S. officials said it remained unclear whether the cases were connected. The New York Times described the withdrawal as unusually urgent, with some bombers departing before aerial refueling aircraft were fully in position.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio initially characterized the movement as routine, saying: “It’s not unusual to see rotations happening and movement of assets. We have confidence in the security of all of our bases”.
President Trump subsequently confirmed that threats prompted the move, contradicting Rubio’s initial explanation, according to Axios. Asked whether a specific threat led to the withdrawal, President Trump said: “Yeah, I think we can say that. They didn’t fly out by accident. There were some threats”.
Asked whether Iran might have brought combat drones into the UK, President Trump replied: “I can’t tell you that. If they did that they’ll suffer greatly”.
✈️ Government plans Dubai return operation as Flydubai weighs longer suspension: The government intends to approve up to NIS 9 million for an operation to bring Israelis back from Dubai following the suspension of Flydubai flights.
Flydubai is considering extending its suspension of flights to Israel beyond October 15 amid the aviation crisis involving UAE carriers. The issue was raised today at a meeting of the Knesset Intelligence Subcommittee chaired by MK Boaz Bismuth.
The discussion also noted that more than 1,200 aircrew members from countries without diplomatic relations with Israel had entered the country since the beginning of the year, including Syrian, Lebanese and Omani crew members.
President Trump said he thought Iran was responsible for the attempted attack on the Flydubai flight.
⚖️ Election-return initiatives make commitments as Likud withdraws petition: After an initiative to fly Israelis home to vote drew outrage in Likud, the nonprofit behind it said the plan involved only 500 people, plus one additional flight from Lisbon, and that participants were paying full price.
Election-return initiatives subsequently pledged not to subsidize airfare, organize additional flights or assist voters on October 27 itself. In return, Likud withdrew its petition.
