 *IDF RELEASES THREE-YEAR WAR FIGURES AS ZAMIR URGES SURPRISE-WAR READINESS*

 IDF’s three-year war figures: Marking three years since October 7, the IDF reported striking approximately 100,000 targets: 65,000 in Gaza, 28,000 in Lebanon and Syria combined, 4,500 in Iran and 80 in Yemen. It listed launches toward Israel totaling 10,200 from Gaza, 20,000 from Lebanon, 1,200 from Iran, 50 from Syria and 90 from Yemen. Its overview also highlighted prominent senior figures eliminated during the war.

The IDF said 970 service members died in operational circumstances during the campaigns. More than 70% of soldiers wounded during the war returned to service, while the reserve force grew by approximately 36%.

According to the IDF, lessons drawn directly from October 7 have been incorporated across its branches, commands, directorates and units. To meet operational needs, it established the HaShomer Brigade, the David Brigades and subsequently the Gilad Division, as well as the 38th Division. It also created armored, intelligence collection, community defense, aerial and tactical defense, policing and detention formations, alongside new Home Front Command formations.

️ Zamir on surprise-war readiness and force expansion: IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the first divisional exercise of the new 38th Division on Wednesday, reviewing troops’ readiness for their missions. He was accompanied by Ground Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Nadav Lotan and Brig. Gen. Sharon Altit, commander of the division and head of the Ground Forces Operations Brigade.

Marking 53 years since the Yom Kippur War and three years since the October 7 massacre, Zamir described them as “two painful shortcomings, two failures, with a connecting thread between them.” He said the possibility of a surprise attack must concern everyone and that “the IDF must always be prepared for a surprise war.”

Zamir said the IDF is examining the roots of the failure and began the week with a learning day reviewing the lessons of October 7. He stressed that implementing those lessons to prevent another failure is his responsibility and that of all active-duty and reserve personnel.

“A commander who does not question and entrenches himself in his perceptions will be defeated,” he said, urging commanders to identify the signals reality sends, listen to them and continually adapt. He added that the military must confront the failure, learn from it and move forward, without becoming immersed solely in it.

Zamir said the reduction in the IDF’s size over the past 20 years has stopped. With missions expanding, he described the military’s size as Israel’s strategic depth, given the country’s small size. He called the establishment of the 38th Division and additional formations over the past year essential to building the IDF’s forces and strengthening Israel’s security.

The 38th Division is now becoming operational and, over the coming year, will establish itself as a flexible General Staff reserve division capable of operating in any arena, Zamir said. He thanked the reservists, saying the entire State of Israel owes them gratitude for their work over the past three years and their extraordinary sacrifice.
