⚠️ Iran strike planning and election concerns: IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir warned senior U.S. officials on Tuesday that resuming the war with Iran within three weeks could force Israel to postpone its October 27 elections, Axios reported. He raised concerns that Iran could retaliate with missile strikes against Israel. His warning followed a U.S. briefing on preparations for renewed military operations against Iran.
The Pentagon has drafted plans for a three-day campaign of intensive strikes targeting Iran’s missile and drone arsenals, energy facilities and IRGC headquarters, according to The New York Times.
The newspaper reported that President Trump has rejected five proposals for major operations against Iran or the Houthis in recent months. Some advisers doubt further strikes would change Tehran’s position; others believe a short campaign could increase pressure on Iran’s weakening economy.
Separately, The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that the U.S. military is preparing options to launch strikes against Iran and conduct operations ahead of the midterm elections.
Axios reported that President Trump subsequently ruled out U.S. strikes on Iran before the November 3 midterms. The New York Times said he cited productive diplomatic talks on Thursday. President Trump said: “We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the US on November 3rd”.
Israel has raised its alert level following recent developments and statements by President Trump, according to Israeli Channel 14.
