❗️ *BOY KILLED IN NORTHERN ISRAEL BLAST; IDF ADVANCES BATTLEFIELD MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES*

❗️ Boy killed and 24 injured in northern Israel explosion: A 14-year-old boy was killed and 24 people were injured in an explosion involving an unexploded Hezbollah cluster submunition in northern Israel. The Education Minister visited the hospital in Safed. A father of one of the students said: “These are middle and high school students, and the trip was properly organized and approved.”

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held an assessment with Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo and ordered an investigation, with findings to be presented to him as soon as possible. The IDF dispatched medical forces and helicopters to evacuate the wounded. Army sappers continued scanning the area for additional unexploded ordnance.

The Ministry of Education stated: “This is an extremely serious incident, and our thoughts are with those affected and their families. The Ministry of Education is currently working in cooperation with the security forces and all relevant professional authorities to provide support to students, educational staff, and their families.”

喙 IDF advances three battlefield medical technologies: According to an IDF report published October 11, the Medical Corps is advancing technologies addressing medical information transfer, early detection of internal bleeding and continuous monitoring during movement, improving care from the point of injury through evacuation to hospital.

A digital casualty command and control system entered battlefield use in March 2026 and operates in maneuvering brigades across various sectors. It records incident details, medical indicators and treatment from the point of injury, sharing information in real time along the evacuation chain. More than 100 actual casualties and hundreds of simulated casualties in exercises have been documented. The system preserves continuity of care, saves time, reduces duplicated work and bureaucracy, and supports reviews to improve future treatment.

Lt. Col. A., head of the Medical Corps’ Physiology and Innovation Branch, said the next step is connecting sensors: “That way, the hospital will also receive the information before the helicopter has even landed.”

A sensor being developed with the Weizmann Institute and MAFAT aims to detect internal bleeding through breathing measurements and airflow through the nostrils. It seeks to identify subtle changes caused by blood loss before conventional medical indicators reveal deterioration. Lt. Col. A. explained that those indicators may initially fail to reflect a casualty’s true condition before a sudden decline. The technology is progressing from scientific research toward a physical device intended to identify casualties needing urgent evacuation despite appearing stable.

A separate wearable sensor, being developed with MAFAT and “Inotal” in the Technology and Logistics Directorate, is intended to continuously measure blood pressure, pulse and oxygen saturation, including inside moving Namer vehicles, tanks and helicopters. It combines optical technologies and algorithms to address movement and vibration that hinder existing monitors. Continuous readings would help teams assess trends and guide treatment.

The wearable project is beginning its pilot phase, with testing planned in evacuation scenarios and low blood pressure conditions to assess field accuracy and reliability.

Lt. Col. A. said wartime experience had clarified gaps and investment priorities: “The goal is to take this important knowledge and turn it into developments that will reach the field and help save lives.”
