 Planned six-month restrictions on cellular and fiber-optic drones: Katz says he will sign a “special security order” on Sunday banning the use of fiber-optic cable-guided and cellular-guided drones in Israeli airspace for six months. His office described it as a temporary measure “intended to provide a security response until additional solutions are found.”

The order will apply specifically to drones guided by fiber-optic cables or carrying SIM cards and using commercial mobile networks, rather than standard radio-frequency control. The proposed wording exempts activities conducted by or on behalf of security agencies, along with fiber-optic and SIM-controlled drones approved by Israel’s Civil Aviation Authority before the order takes effect.

The order also establishes “an exemptions committee to consider requests for exemptions from the order,” according to Katz.

His office said the decision was made “against the backdrop of concrete intelligence and growing threats from Israel’s enemies, both inside and outside the country, including drone attacks, attempts to harm senior officials, the use of drones by criminals and crime families, intelligence gathering, and smuggling.”

“Given the severity and variety of the threats, a response is required both in security zones and along the borders, as well as to drone terrorism inside Israel,” the statement said.

Katz said the flight ban is part of a broader response that includes import restrictions and other regulatory measures. According to the statement, Netanyahu and Katz approved the move at a recent security cabinet meeting, following discussions and staff work led by the National Security Council with security agencies.

 Student accounts raise questions over fatal school-trip explosion: New testimonies from students who survived the deadly ORT Ma’alot Yeshiva High School trip indicate that teenagers reportedly carried an unexploded cluster munition for more than an hour before it detonated during a lunch break. The explosion killed 14-year-old Elazar Yair Wilensky and injured 24 others.

Students claim they received no instructions on handling unexploded ordnance. The Ministry of Education maintains that explicit safety guidelines had been provided. Questions also surround approval of the hiking route after it emerged that JNF-KKL had warned officials the area was closed because of war damage.
