️ Coalition conditions ahead of the October 27 elections: The Joint List’s conditions for the Change Bloc include a political path toward a Palestinian state. Gantz accused Lieberman of previously trying to form a government with the Joint List and said he would do so again after the elections.
Shas and United Torah Judaism signed a surplus vote-sharing agreement. UTJ chairman MK Yaakov Asher told Yishai Cohen that his party would neither join nor support a government unless legislation regulating yeshiva students’ status, known as the Draft Law, was passed first.
️ Opposition leaders dispute Netanyahu’s future role and unity: Eisenkot rejected Bennett’s earlier suggestion that Netanyahu could serve as a minister in the next government. Speaking at the Alon HaDor conference, he said anyone who held office on October 7 was unfit for command or leadership, including as finance minister.
Bennett said Netanyahu bears “direct and personal responsibility for the October 7 massacre” and must leave office: “We will not serve in a government with him under any circumstances.” He said his earlier remarks illustrated the absurdity, arguing that Netanyahu opposes conscription for all, a state commission of inquiry and a constitution.
At the Yedioth Ahronoth Conference, President Herzog pledged to do everything possible to prevent another election. Lapid rejected what he called another “fake ‘unity’ government,” saying Netanyahu would again deceive his partners and use votes cast to remove him to remain in power. He urged other opposition parties to rule it out.
Yair Golan also rejected unity with Netanyahu. Gantz warned that without unity, Israel would bring another October 7 upon itself.
️ Military voting begins October 20: The IDF plans at least 850 military polling stations at bases and outposts across Israel and beyond its borders. Soldiers will begin voting on the evening of October 20 because of “operational considerations,” with military stations remaining open through October 27.
The IDF says 25% of the stations will be fully mobile, reaching conscripts and reservists in remote locations and inside enemy territory. The military has about 40 outposts in Gaza, numerous positions in Lebanon and nine outposts in Syria.
Mobile stations will follow predetermined schedules between units, accompanied by an armed officer responsible for security. Ballot boxes will remain locked in transit. Soldiers may also vote at civilian stations on October 27; double envelopes will ensure each soldier votes only once.
Around 3,000 soldiers, mainly young conscripts, will staff the stations after Central Elections Committee training. Col. Vered Ben Yehuda, who also heads the IDF Civilian Employees Employment Center, will oversee the process.
The IDF says it will remain nonpartisan, keep political discourse out of the process and facilitate voting and election integrity without engaging in voters’ positions.
