Chikli’s strategy for international partnerships: Speaking Thursday evening, Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli addressed possible future American economic or military sanctions against Israel, stressing the importance of relationships with young conservatives and Republicans. “We cannot allow ourselves to lose the Republican Party,” he said.
As part of his approach to combating antisemitism and strengthening support for Israel, he advocated expanding strategic ties with India, Brazil, Japan, Greece, Cyprus, the United Arab Emirates and Austria.
️ Chikli’s assessment of October 7 and antisemitism: Asked about rising antisemitism, Chikli described October 7 as an expression of what he considers the Palestinian vision of the “right of return,” citing rape, murder and looting. “The Right of Return is October 7th,” he said, arguing that the attackers had genocidal intentions and that police and IDF intervention prevented further atrocities.
Chikli attributed the subsequent eruption of antisemitism to hopes raised by the attack that Israel’s Jewish communities could be destroyed, rather than to Israel’s later military operations in Gaza. He alleged a “green-red alliance” between Islamist and pro-Palestinian movements and the political left, criticizing Belgium, France, Britain and Canada for recognizing Palestinian statehood while hostages remained in Hamas captivity.
Arguing that antisemitism draws limited concern among much of the non-Jewish Western public, he said opposition to political and radical Islam offers a stronger foundation for international partnerships. He cited polling associated with Turning Point USA that he said identified Islam as the leading threat perceived by young American conservatives.
欄 Chikli defends engagement with opposition parties: Chikli defended engaging France’s Jordan Bardella despite criticism from French Jewish institutions. He described his partnerships with Bardella, Marine Le Pen, Santiago Abascal and Flávio Bolsonaro as a coalition against radical Islam, communism and the far left, intended to combat antisemitism. He said his ministerial role gives him flexibility to engage opposition parties beyond official government-to-government diplomacy.
He also praised what he described as a shift by Austria’s FPÖ, under Herbert Kickl, toward adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism, supporting an embassy move to Jerusalem and recognizing Jewish rights in Judea and Samaria. Citing the party’s apology over its founders’ past, Chikli argued that its shift could influence Germany’s AfD and other European parties.
