⚖️ High Court permits Eliyahu’s temporary extension: The High Court of Justice ruled that Yehuda Eliyahu may continue as acting director general of the Israel Land Authority for three months, contrary to the Attorney General’s position.
Construction and Housing Minister Haim Katz signed the extension after a clarification meeting with Eliyahu, attended by Netanyahu, resolved the issues behind their dispute. The extension lasts three months or until a permanent appointment, whichever comes first.
“I welcome the High Court of Justice’s decision and believe in working together to advance Jewish settlement in the Galilee, the Negev, and throughout the Land of Israel,” Haim Katz said.
Finance Minister Smotrich welcomed the decision: “I am pleased that Yehuda Eliyahu, who has demonstrated impressive capabilities and achievements, will continue serving in his position and extend the transformation to the Negev and the Galilee.”
️ Eisenkot’s Hamas pledge and campaign criticism: Speaking at the Gaza border, Eisenkot said: “I pledge: Within 18 months of taking office as Prime Minister, Hamas will no longer rule the Gaza Strip. We will bring about the destruction of Hamas’s military wing. This will happen either through action based on President Trump’s plan, which was accepted by the Netanyahu government, or through the use of military and operational capabilities. As long as Benjamin Netanyahu remains in power, Hamas will remain in power.”
Likud responded: “How will you dismantle Hamas without getting permission from your partners, Mansour and Tibi?”
At the Manufacturers’ Conference, Eisenkot told Segel: “Left versus right gets us nowhere. The same election slogan used against Peres in 1996 is Netanyahu’s slogan today: ‘Either the right or Palestine.’ Who is he saying this to? To me? To Shira Shapira, Aner Shapira’s mother? To Nir Hajabi, who lost his son? To Shay Fisher, who lost her grandmother?”
️ Tibi on an inquiry and coalition compromises: Segel reported that Tibi told the Manufacturers’ Conference the Joint List would vote to establish a state commission of inquiry into the October 7 massacre.
“We’ll swallow bigger frogs than ever before to keep Bibi from returning,” Tibi said.
Segel asked whether Tibi would remain in a coalition if the government launched attacks in Gaza, Lebanon and Judea and Samaria, noting that opposition leaders were promising to be as aggressive as Netanyahu. Tibi replied: “I’m not saying how big the frogs I’m willing to swallow will be.”
Smotrich’s subsidy claim: At the Manufacturers’ Conference, Finance Minister Smotrich said: “The state subsidizes Arabs more than ultra-Orthodox Jews.”
️ Ben Gvir and Lieberman set coalition red lines: Ben Gvir told the Manufacturers’ Conference: “I have no place in a unity government between Bibi and Eisenkot. It would be a government of national paralysis. A clear choice must be made: either right or left.”
Lieberman said he would not support any minority government, even for a transitional period.
In his analysis of Eisenkot’s coalition options, Segel described Lieberman’s refusal as a significant blow to Eisenkot’s plan, citing what he said was a prolonged absence of polling close to 61 seats. He questioned whether Lieberman’s position was intended to reassure right-wing voters or undermine the largest-party campaign strategy.
️ Seat projections and the electoral threshold: A Channel 14 poll shows Bennett gaining four seats compared with the previous poll and gives Netanyahu’s bloc 62 seats. Winter and Yaron Zelekha fail to cross the electoral threshold.
️ Overseas voting begins: The first ballot has been cast, with voting taking place overnight at Israel’s new embassy in Fiji.
Israel’s ambassador to Paraguay, Amit Mekel, cast his vote.
