Diplomat attack and disputed evidence: European diplomats were attacked near Taybeh in the Binyamin region, in what the IDF condemned as a severe act of violence by Israeli rioters. Police opened an investigation, with Judea and Samaria District officers and forensic investigators entering under IDF protection to collect evidence and testimony.
According to a preliminary military inquiry, no IDF soldiers were present during the attack. The IDF said the consular visit had not been coordinated with the military and described coordination as important for preventing such incidents.
The military said a report reached the brigade operations room, which receives dozens of operational reports daily but responds only to authorized security personnel, not civilians. It said other channels are available for civilian complaints and that all circumstances would be examined.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disputed the evidence, saying: “Serious accusations require serious evidence.” He said the delegation included figures he described as hostile to Israel who entered a sensitive area without prior coordination, and that no documented evidence currently substantiated violence by Jews against them.
The IDF spokesperson stated: “The rioters were Jews.” Netanyahu maintained that there was no evidence of that.
Journalist injured near Khirbet Abu Falah: In a separate incident the previous day, IDF and Border Police forces responded to a violent confrontation near Khirbet Abu Falah, where foreign media personnel were present and a female journalist was injured.
The IDF said arriving forces used riot-dispersal measures. At another location during the confrontation, soldiers fired warning shots into the air and then toward a suspect who, according to the military, ran toward them carrying a sharp object and posed a threat. The confrontation was dispersed.
Police and forensic investigators were to enter under IDF protection to collect evidence and testimony. The military said all circumstances would be examined.
The IDF condemned violence against innocent civilians as grave and unacceptable, saying attempts to provoke friction between populations undermine security. It pledged a coordinated response with the relevant authorities.
U.S. condemnation and diplomatic concerns: U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee called the attack on the female photojournalist “an act of terrorism,” adding: “Whoever did it should spend years in prison.”
Amit Segal argued that Huckabee’s deep support for Israel and the settlement movement gives his condemnation particular diplomatic significance. He warned that such violence damages Israel’s standing even among its closest friends and called for arrests and meaningful punishment to deter further attacks. He also assessed that a future U.S. ambassador may demand action beyond statements.
Israeli civilian injured near Beit Lid: Separately, IDF and Border Police forces were dispatched that afternoon near Beit Lid following a report that an Israeli civilian had been injured after a confrontation between Israelis and Palestinians. The civilian was evacuated for treatment, reports of additional injuries were being examined, and forces were conducting searches.
Unverified stone-throwing allegation near Ma’ale Ahuvia: A separate, unattributed report alleged that dozens of Arabs described as olive harvesters were throwing stones at Jews near Ma’ale Ahuvia. No verification was provided for the claim.
