Trump’s endorsement and Netanyahu’s response: U.S. President Donald Trump gave Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu his “Complete and Total Endorsement” ahead of Israel’s October 27 election. Addressing Israelis, Trump described Netanyahu as a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and a partner for peace against Iran. He said any other leader would be the wrong choice and would leave America having to confront Iran itself, something he was reluctant to do.
Citing Iran’s longstanding threats to destroy Israel and the United States, Trump argued that Tehran would eventually have acted on them. He claimed Iran had been systematically destroyed militarily and financially, warning: “unless they change their ways, rapidly, we will soon finish the job.” He praised Netanyahu’s strength and resilience under pressure, including domestic opposition, and presented him as the partner Washington expected from Israel.
Netanyahu thanked Trump for his endorsement, clarity, courage and unwavering support, saying: “Israel has never had a greater friend in the White House.” He pledged: “Together we will never let Iran’s regime get nuclear weapons.” In another response, Netanyahu said: “Only Trump and I will destroy Iran’s nuclear program”.
️ Eisenkot’s response and Segal’s assessment: Yashar leader Gadi Eisenkot told Keren Marciano: “I have great respect for Trump, but only the citizens of Israel will decide.”
Amit Segal reported that Trump and Netanyahu had spoken numerous times over the past month, considerably more often than publicly disclosed. Senior White House officials told Segal they had seen no new polls and that surveys commissioned for them showed Netanyahu roughly in line with the polling picture in Israel.
Netanyahu’s office said it had received no advance notice of the endorsement and had scrambled to find archival video after discovering Trump’s message on a platform it did not subscribe to. Segal questioned both accounts.
Segal described explicit presidential endorsements as exceptional, while noting earlier U.S. involvement, including Clinton’s campaigning for Peres and Trump’s for Netanyahu. Citing Hungary, he argued that Trump faced little cost if his preferred candidate lost because any future Israeli leader would still have to work with him.
Segal said the endorsement was shaping the agenda, although its electoral impact remained uncertain. He suggested that the frequency of Trump and Netanyahu’s conversations could, more significantly, indicate closer cooperation over the future of the Iran war than was publicly apparent.
️ Netanyahu addresses possible confrontation with Turkey: Presenting his updated national security doctrine, Netanyahu said he hoped to avoid a direct confrontation with Turkey and was working to prevent one. He added: “Without naming any particular country, we are taking all possibilities into account.”
️ Talks over New Haredim Party withdrawal: Netanyahu is negotiating with Moti Leitner, chairman of the New Haredim Party, over the party’s withdrawal from the race. Progress has been reported, although Netanyahu has so far refused to promise Leitner a ministerial position in the next government or a guaranteed electoral-list position in the next elections.
The party stated: “We’re staying in the race until the very end.”
Polls show different threshold outcomes: One poll put the Change Bloc one seat ahead of Netanyahu’s bloc, with Winter below the electoral threshold and Yaron Zelekha above it. A quarter of respondents said they might not vote.
A separate Channel 15 poll gave the coalition 50–57 seats, with both Winter and Zelekha below the threshold.
