⚠️ Iran warns of consequences from further escalation: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that “any further escalation of regional tensions will pose a serious threat to the lives of civilians in the region and the global economy”.
Washington reportedly sent a message through Pakistan saying it would strike Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain, which houses nuclear facilities.
Senior Iranian officials told Reuters that Tehran is deliberately prolonging peace negotiations to prevent U.S. President Trump from securing a political victory ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
President Trump said: “We’re doing very well when it comes to Iran. All that remains is for us to make the final decision on how we want to win.”
⚓ Third U.S. carrier strike group heads to the region: The USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit are expected to arrive in the Middle East by the end of November, adding roughly 10,000 sailors and Marines, Fox News reported.
The Roosevelt will join the USS George H.W. Bush and USS George Washington, both currently operating in the Arabian Sea, according to the report.
The deployment comes a day after U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth reportedly met secretly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the Israeli Air Force’s Ovda Air Base.
Hegseth said: “I visited U.S. forces in Israel, spoke with Netanyahu, and will not discuss the details of our conversations”.
Asked by a reporter, “Can you fill us in on what Hegseth spoke about with Netanyahu in Israel?” President Trump replied: “I can’t do that now, no”.
Financial Times reports Trump blocked October 10 attack: Netanyahu planned a major, multi-day attack on Iran for the weekend of October 10, but President Trump blocked it over concerns that renewed war could escalate ahead of the November 3 U.S. midterm elections, the Financial Times reported, citing three people familiar with the matter.
The proposed operation would have targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, power plants and other critical infrastructure.
Netanyahu’s reported push for an attack before the election contrasts with President Trump’s declared position: “We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the midterms,” a position consistent with the reported decision to block the operation.
✈️ Israeli fighter jets drill along route toward Iran: Israeli Air Force fighter jets reportedly conducted a drill in recent days involving a flight path toward Iran through Syrian and Iraqi airspace.
Pakistan and Qatar propose funds-for-inspection compromise: Pakistan and Qatar have proposed reviving U.S.-Iran talks by allowing Iran to receive interest generated by $6 billion in frozen funds held in Qatari banks in exchange for a confidential International Atomic Energy Agency inspection of its nuclear facilities, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported.
Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir delivered the proposal to Tehran on Tuesday. Sources cited in the report said the plan has U.S. approval and that Iran had previously responded positively.
Only the interest would be deposited into an Iranian account; the principal would remain frozen. The proposed inspection would be unannounced and address a key U.S. demand concerning Iran’s nuclear program.
️ Ghalibaf sets conditions for restoring trust: After meeting Munir, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran has ‘nothing new to say’ to Washington. He added that the U.S. cannot regain Iran’s trust unless it implements Tehran’s seven conditions.
A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran and departed about 30 minutes later. Munir has also left Tehran.
